Description
Just 2,083 of these MG J2 were produced between mid-1932 and early 1934, with the car representing everything that was of a basic sports car of its time. The chassis layout follows that of the successful C type, otherwise known as the Montlhery Midget, a direct derivative from the M type. Power comes from the 847cc, overhead-camshaft Wolseley-derived engine with the car incorporating things such as a large rear mounted petrol tank which the spare wheel straps onto, centre lock wire wheels and remote-control gear change, enclosed in alloy casting located conveniently to the driver’s hand.
The J2 is strictly a 2-seater which set the fashion in MG sports cars for many years to come, despite the success of its predecessor the J1 which was offered with 4 seats. The lightweight J2 possessed exemplary handling and steering by the standards of the day and to many enthusiasts, the J2 is the definitive of a pre-war MG.
The MG J2 has undergone a full rebuild by ourselves, including ash frame body and top end engine rebuild. The owner has gone to extreme lengths to get this this vehicle into pristine condition, with an outstanding amount of time and money being invested into the car. Finished in dark green with a green interior, the black canvas soft-top comes with a small rear window.
